Extracurriculars at JBU
While there are a wide variety of extracurriculars at JBU, it can sometimes be hard to find one or two that feel just right. For some, intramurals are an attractive option because they offer physical activity. For others, the work of student government is appealing. Regardless, there is always something to be a part of at JBU.
Honors: One of the many extracurricular offerings at JBU is the Honors Scholars Program. Since its creation in the 1960s, the program has been a beacon of academic excellence and high achievement at JBU and allows students to take special honors courses, attend academic conferences and participate in unique events and activities that are designed to promote intellectual and spiritual growth. Students who complete the necessary requirements can graduate with either Presidential or University Honors, both of which hold high esteem on alumni resumes.
Growth Groups: Growth Groups are one avenue of authentic spiritual growth at JBU. These peer-led groups meet weekly for fellowship, Bible-study, prayer, book discussion, or addressing special areas of interest from within the group such as current events or personal affairs. The groups can have a variety of time ranges, with some only meeting for a month while others meet for a whole year. One of the interesting things about these groups is that anyone can be either a member or a leader.
SEA: Student Events and Activities, or SEA, is one of the more leadership oriented extracurriculars at JBU. The group includes around 10 positions that work with each other to plan on-campus activities throughout the year. If you don’t make it on the board, don’t worry; anyone can attend their events! The events are typically free and will include things like free food, fun games, and tons of other surprises. Rather a board member or just an attendee, this organization is perfect for getting involved.
