Avoiding Burnout
No matter what time of the year, students are always at risk of experiencing burnout. Heavy course loads, jobs, and extracurriculars can all contribute to this. For some, burnout can be a difficult thing to escape, especially when work seems to increase throughout the semester with midterms, projects and finals. However, students remain resourceful and find new and helpful ways of fighting off burnout.
We asked some JBU students how they deal with burnout and here’s what they said:
“Know that it will happen. School gets repetitive and you will, at some point, feel some level of burnout, and that’s okay. Accepting it can be hard, but I’ve always considered it the first step to moving past it in a healthy way.” – Haley Moyer, Sophomore
“School is the priority, but make time for something fun in your schedule, like an extracurricular. Do something that you enjoy or take an elective you’re interested in, especially during semesters where you are taking mostly core classes.” – Kate Austin, Junior
“Find a hobby. Just like one or two things you do once a week. Having that thing to look forward to can be extremely helpful. Getting enough (or at least almost enough) sleep can help too.” – Emily Chandler, Sophomore
Burnout can be tough to avoid, but keeping fun and healthy habits as a top priority can be the key to making it through the semester.
