What to do in NWA
Northwest Arkansas is a beautiful area with tons of stuff to do. However, if you’re new to the area, you might find it difficult to make weekend plans. Here are some of the best things to do in NWA:
- Explore historic downtowns: Siloam Springs, Fayetteville, Bentonville, Rogers and Fort Smith all offer unique and beautiful historic downtown areas where you can shop, eat, and find a myriad of activities. These spaces are popular for taking pictures and sightseeing, and you could spend hours simply wandering around.
- Go to a concert: The Walmart AMP is just 45 minutes away from JBU campus and has a lineup of amazing concerts scheduled for the next year. Acts like the Jonas Brothers and Jason Aldean will be making appearances later this year, with the Backstreet Boys and Matchbox Twenty already on the calendar for the summer of 2022.
- Crystal Bridges and The Momentary: These two art museums are the jewels of NWA, with both receiving national acclaim for their exhibits. A popular weekend getaway for JBU students, these museums are constantly changing their exhibits to show new art and offer variety, and often will include interactive displays to add an element of activity.
- Go to a Razorbacks game: One of the more popular options for sports fans is a trip to Fayetteville for a Razorbacks football game. They offer lots of excitement and the energy of the University of Arkansas fans make the games a great environment to be a part of. Going to one of these games also gives students the ability to participate in calling the hogs, which is when Arkansas fans yell “woo pig sooie” to support the team.
- Go to the lake. Lake days are incredibly popular with students at JBU, and Northwest Arkansas has a multitude of great options. From Lake Wedington in Fayetteville, Beaver Lake in Rogers, to City Lake in Siloam, there are plenty of fun places to visit if you want to get your feet wet. If lakes aren’t your thing but you like being on the water, there are a few nearby kayak parks too, as well as a few kayaks on campus that you can rent.
