Dorm Necessities
When packing up to move into college for the first time you can find yourself stressed out about what you should bring for life in your dorm. For many returning students, they have a list of necessities, or items that they feel they must have in their dorm.
We asked some current JBU students what they thought were dorm necessities. Here’s what they said:
“One of my dorm essentials is any type of mattress pad! The mattresses in the dorms can be thin, and having the extra cushion is so nice.” – Sydra Stanley, Senior
“While packing for college, I decided that microwave mac and cheese would be the perfect snack. However, I didn’t think about how forks would be a necessary utensil for my snack until after I had made my first bowl. You should always have utensils in your dorm for snacks at all times of the day.” – Macie Redick, Freshman
“The most important thing to have in your room is a broom/vacuum. Dorms can get messy, and you won’t want to borrow the dorms community vacuum all the time.” – Shekinah Williams, Senior
“Definitely a candle warmer. It’s the best way to make the room smell better and there’s no fire.” – Charli McIlrath, Junior
While planning for college can be tricky, packing some of these things may put you on the right track to starting off dorm life comfortably. However, part of the experience is getting here and finding out for yourself what exactly you consider a dorm necessity. Just remember to have fun with decorating, designing and taking care of your dorm!
