Let’s admit it. Too many of us let our grades define us. Yes, you know who you are. Believe me, I’m with you. When we get that A, we feel successful. It gives us energy and makes the day so much better. On the contrary, anything less than perfect causes us anxiety and puts a damper on the rest of the week. For many students, going off to college will be the first time that they’re responsible for choosing their own church. This can be a daunting task, but here are some tips: Consider the attributes of the church you grew up in. The change feels immediate. One second we’re driving through the flat, boring Texas panhandle, and the next the bushes have changed to manzanita shrubs and the dirt is red. I love running first thing in the morning on the Dogwood Springs Trail, the paved path that snakes through Siloam Springs and rings John Brown’s campus. Morning is the most beautiful time of day, full of the promise of the hours ahead. The sky is tinged with ever-brightening blue as I run by Hutch residence hall and down past the rugby pitch. I suffer from Gymtimidation. It’s a real problem. I want to workout but I don’t feel comfortable going into the Walton Health Complex. My Growth Group leader’s apartment was so welcoming to step into. The smell of freshly baked muffins saturated the air with the rich, appetizing aroma of chocolate. Delicate and ornate stacks of teacups lined a shelf above a basket full of teas, and soft fuzzy blankets were draped over the couches.
